The Zagorias Federation Army (ザゴリアス (れん) (ぽう) (ぐん) Zagoriasu-Renpougun?), or ZFA, was an army that invaded and occupied 80% of Astigos Island. Led by General Giorgio Zott, the ZFA was well-equipped with military-grade equipment. They are the antagonistic faction in Time Crisis 3.

Giorgio Zott[]

The commander-in-chief of the Zagorias Federation Army, Zott sends out his army to invade Astigos Island and deployed tactical missiles on said island for the purpose for launching them at Lukano. When the V.S.S.E. agents arrived at the missile base, he launches the missiles before engaging in a fight against them. He is killed by the two V.S.S.E. agents who prevented the missiles from leaving the base.

Randy Garrett[]

A member of the Zagorias Federation Army, Randy is first seen on a bridge where he deploys Clawmen to ambush a train which the V.S.S.E. agents and Alicia Winston are on. When the train eventually stops at the bridge, he engages the V.S.S.E. agents in a fight. Despite his weapons and Clawmen, Randy is shot off the container he was standing on, causing him to fall to his death.

Victor Zahn[]

A member of the Zagorias Federation Army, Zahn is first seen inside a V-TOL and drops bombs at a wrecked ship which the V.S.S.E. agents are in. Just as they are about to get out, Zahn ambushes them but Alicia Winston saves them by allowing the two V.S.S.E. agents to jump into her jeep just as he launches rockets at them. After all of the weapons on the V-TOL are destroyed, Zahn engages the V.S.S.E. agents and Alicia Winston in a fight. Despite his weapons, Zahn is defeated who then drops the grenades he is using in the V-TOL, blowing it up and ultimately killing himself.

Types of Infantry[]

The Zagorias Federation Army as demonstrated in the game, is quite capable and effective military organization. Much of the success of their campaign against the island of Astigos was thanks to a combination of their superior technological capabilities and their effective manpower that proved to be a unsurmountable threat for the Lukanoan defense forces. Their ranks are broken into either generalized or specialty roles.

Standard Infantry[]

This category of soldiers represents the majority of the Zagorias army standard armed forces, and the most common enemies you'll encounter on your mission. They are relatively unarmored and only take 1 shot to defeat and can receive 2 more chase shots afterwards. They all are armed with M1911/Beretta M92 hybrid handguns in game. Apart from the "Sharphooter" soldiers, these guys have generally poor aim and will rarely land their shots. Although, their accuracy does improve somewhat farther in the game.

Their standard uniform consists of full body fatigues, utility vest, straps, gloves, and boots. They also wear a combination of ski mask / googles / gas mask on their heads. Occasionally, these soldiers will use riot shields that cannot be penetrated but can be affected by grenades.

"Normal" class[]

Soldiers dressed in light green fatigues. There are a few varieties of these soldiers: some have gas masks, others seem to have night vision goggles on, variants have masks and others don't, some of them wear just goggles with no mask and no gas mask so that their spiky brown hair are visible, etc. In cutscenes, these soldiers are shown to use FN P90s but in game they use only M1911/Beretta M92 hybrid handguns. The rate of of these soldiers hitting you is very low. In Stage 1 Area 1, there are 26 of them on parachute of which 6 of them will land.

"Armorer" class[]

"Armorer" soldiers, or Item soldiers (アイテム (へい) Aitemu hei,?) dressed in white and yellow fatigues. They also use M1911/Beretta M92 hybrid handguns in game and generally have low accuracy like the normal-class soldiers while some do not participate in fights like the ones in the previous game. Shooting them (and then following up with up to 2 chase shots for extra points as with all enemy types) yields you ammunition for your machine gun, shotgun, and grenade. E.g. you land one shot (enough to kill), and you get rewarded with ammunition for your machine gun. However, if you land three shots (one is still sufficient to defeat soldiers of this class), you may yield more ammunition for the same weapon. Rewards are not limited to a single ammunition type (in example, you may garner two machine gun rewards and one shotgun rewards if you land three shots). Ammo for the machine gun, shotgun, and grenade dropped by this soldier class are not shared in a two-player game in the Arcade Mode.

"Sharpshooter" class[]

Recognized for their exceptional aiming ability, these soldiers are dressed in red fatigues to represent their dangerous nature. Despite having no armor, they are dangerous because they have the highest kill shot ratio. Most of the time, their first shot is marked as lethal in the game. Prioritizing these soldiers as targets is a must. They take advantage of their crack shot aiming ability by hiding in corners and between allies to sneak in a quick strike on you. In a few cutscenes, they are shown as armed with FN P90s, but in game they use M1911/Beretta M92 hybrid handguns.

"Armored" class[]

Soldiers dressed in orange fatigues and are seen with full face mask and night vision goggles. They are the first armored enemy in the game. About 5 shots from the handgun are enough to kill them. They use FN P90s in cutscenes and in-game.

"Acrobat" class[]

"Acrobat" class or Clawmen Soldiers, are dressed in blue and oily gray fatigues. They are a special operations class of soldiers. They literally have the ability to jump up to thirty feet (approximately) in the game while doing various acrobatic maneuvers such as cartwheels. Their only weapon is double wolverine-style melee blades attached to their wrists. They are also armored, requiring 3 shots to kill with the handgun. They also have the ability to cling to most surfaces like spiders; this is most prominent in the train level on the bridge segment.

  • The ones guarding Randy Garrett are similar to the standard "Acrobat" class soldiers in terms of ability but are dressed in yellow and black fatigues. They are more resistant to damage, requiring 10 shots to kill with the handgun. The kill and chase shot is each worth 2,000 points.

"Frogman" class[]

Soldiers dressed in blue-grey colored diving suits, equipped with water jets attached on their backs and are armed with a gauntlet with a melee blade on both arms. Like the "Acrobat" class soldiers, they require 3 shots to kill with the handgun. Those in the the first stage of the "Rescue Mission" are also equipped with night vision goggles. There are 14 of them and only appear in Stage 2 Area 2. In Stage 1 of the "Rescue Mission" of Time Crisis 3, Alicia Winston will come across 7 Frogmen at Marano Beach.

"Specialist" classes[]

Soldiers that are identifiable by their striking blue uniforms. They represent a class of soldiers that focus on weapons other than standard firearms. They can have an annoying habit of being in harder to hit places as usual.

"Throwers"[]

Soldiers that wield either tomahawks or M26 grenades. They are not armored and the thrown projectiles can be shot down.

"Flamers"[]

Soldiers that wield M2 flamethrowers. They are armored, requiring 4 shots to kill with the handgun.

"Missile Men"[]

Soldiers that wield Carl Gustav M2 rocket launchers. They are not armored. However, the rockets they fire cannot be shot down.

"Pole Men"[]

Soldiers that wield steel poles as melee attacks. They are not armored and only appear in Crisis Mission Day 5 Extra Mission for a total of three units.

"Sniper" class[]

Soldiers dressed in white and red fatigues. These enemies are exclusive to the "Rescue Mission" scenario and are equipped with Accuracy International Precision Marksman rifles for long-range attacks. They have higher accuracy than "normal" class soldiers and are sometimes hard to spot especially in wooded areas.

Scoring Notes[]

This section outlines the point distributions from the different soldiers in the Zagorias Federation Army. These values are for points from first individual hits and do not include combos or bonuses.

"Standard" infantry[]

"Standard" infantry in this context refers to enemies who go down in one hit. The hit that makes them go down is the "kill" shot. After the "kill" shot, you can hit the enemy with two more additional chaser shots if hit quickly enough. The point value of the enemy is largely dependent on what part of the body the "kill" shot hit. The different areas include the head, torso, and limbs (arms and legs) The chaser shots can hit any part of the body and will give the same amount of points regardless.

"Unique" infantry[]

In this context, "Unique" infantry refers to soldiers that reveal a life bear when hit and require multiple hits to take down. The multiple hits vary between different soldiers as shown in the table below. Another unique aspect is that the "kill" shot is registered as two hits instead of one (excluding Elite Clawmen). They still take can take two chaser shots like normal.

Jeeps[]

Vehicles resembling the Willys MB which are typically driven by "Armored" class soldiers with the exception of one driven by an "Armorer" class soldier and can carry any class of soldiers excluding "sniper" class soldiers for Arcade Mode and "Rescue Mission". For Crisis Mission, they are driven by "Normal" class soldiers and carry "Sniper" class soldiers.

Dirt Bikes[]

Off-road motorcycles which are driven by "Armored" class soldiers in the Arcade Mode. In "Rescue Mission", they can be driven by "Normal", "Armorer" or "Armored" class soldiers and some have an "Acrobat" class soldier as its passenger. In Stage 5, it is driven by an "Acrobat" class soldier who crashes it on a low wall before jumping out and attack.

Patrol Boats[]

Small naval vessels which only appear at the coast or river. The one in the Stage 1 Area 1 cutscene has "Normal" class soldiers, the one in Stage 1 of the "Rescue Mission" runs aground followed by "Normal" and "Armored" class soldiers leaving the boat, the one in Stage 9 has 3 "Sniper" class soldiers and an explosive crate which can be shot and destroyed, and there are 2 in Crisis Mission which can be shot and destroyed.

Trucks[]

Vehicles resembling the Studebaker US6 in the "Rescue Mission". There are 2 units in Stage 7 and 1 unit in Stage 9 which can be shot and destroyed. Strangely, the one in Stage 9 requires one shot to be destroyed when it appears in the second action sequence but if not shot there, it requires three shots to be destroyed when it appears in the next action sequence.

V-TOL[]

Aircraft similar to the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey are present (one is used in the Arcade Mode and two are used in the "Rescue Mission", the first one being the same as the one in Arcade Mode with the lack of weaponry), they are armed with a General Dynamics GAU-22/A Gatling cannon in front (they appear in cutscenes and in-game for the Arcade Mode but only appear in a cutscene and in Stage 13 for the "Rescue Mission"), 3 heavy machine guns on the sides (both sides are used in the Arcade Mode while only the left side is used in Stage 13 for the "Rescue Mission"), and 2 rocket pods attached on the wings (they appear in cutscenes and in-game for the Arcade Mode but only appear in a cutscene and in Stage 13 for the "Rescue Mission". In Crisis Mission Day 3 Mission 3, the rocket pods can turn to face backwards).

Tanks[]

Main battle tanks resembling the Ariete which are also armed with missile launchers on the turret sides. The one in "Rescue Mission" (Stage 5) is fitted with explosive reactive armor, giving it greater protection. In addition, two "Armored" class soldiers appear from the loader's hatch in the Arcade Mode while a "Sharpshooter" class soldier appears from the loader's hatch in the "Rescue Mission".

Mini Submarines[]

Mini-subs armed with a three-barreled Gatling gun attached to their con towers and are also armed with missile launchers. They are seven of these mini-subs and are used in the river segment of the Arcade Mode (Stage 2 Area 2).

Train[]

A train which is armed with an anti-armor cannon, a pair of rocket pods, and three five-barreled Gatling cannons appears in the train fight of the "Rescue Mission" (Stage 8).

Wheeled Armored Vehicles[]

Wheeled Armored Vehicles equipped with some sort of large resonance dish on top. There are three of these vehicles and only appear in the final boss battle. The dish fires electricity at targets but requires time to charge it.

Artillery Bunker[]

A large anti-ship and/or anti-air weapon cannon is situated on top of a bunker at Marano Beach. This is presumed to be part of Astigos' defense grid.

Miscellaneous[]

It is evidenced that they have a paramilitary type rank structure, as each boss seems to have their favorite type of class of soldier which they command.

The ZFA has nuclear capability[note 1] seeing as they deployed four tactical missiles at Astigos (it is unknown whether or not each missile had one warhead or multiple warheads) which are capable of striking Lukano and other neighboring Mediterranean countries at any time.[1] The deployment of these missiles threatened neighboring countries and so, the V.S.S.E. was dispatched to neutralize the threat.

  1. This is indirectly referenced in a Time Crisis 3 Japanese subtitle which used the term " (かく) (だん) (だんとう) " (kaku dantou) meaning nuclear warhead to describe the warhead that Jake Hernandez intended to sell.
